The K450X is a fully automatic, digitally controlled rotary pumped SEM carbon coater. The system uses low voltage, high current electrodes between which the carbon fibre is located. A shutter is included to protect the specimens from heat damage during the timed out-gassing of the carbon fibre.
The whole process is completely automatic - after pump down to a working vacuum and out-gassing, the shutter automatically retracts and full power is applied to the electrodes; this causes the carbon to burn quickly (or 'flash') which fuses (breaks) as part of the process. Finally the shutter returns to the protective position and the chamber is vented. The controls can be pre-selected to allow for different types of carbon fibre. A rotating, tilting specimen stage ensures even carbon deposition of samples with irregular surfaces.
The 450X requires a 50L/min rotary pump.
